A Fall Farm Wedding in Harpswell, Maine
Sammi and John married in early October at the peak of fall color at Live Well Farm in Harpswell, Maine.
Sammi and John planned to have a small wedding at one of our local wedding and event venues in the midcoast, Live Well Farm. The farm is a rustic venue set on 5 acres with an original barn, apple orchard and a defined ceremony area with mature perennial gardens.
Sammi and John weren't looking for elaborate arrangements or installations, what they needed were a few bouquets, some boutonnieres and corsages and bud vases for the reception tables. I'm always happy to make recommendations for ways to cut costs- especially when there is so much natural beauty around. Live Well Farm is that type of venue where you don't need to add much to make it special-- especially in the fall.
After our consultation, I learned that they were open to using a seasonal palette of flowers, as local as possible, with plenty of texture. This was music to my ears.
Sammi and John's wedding felt relaxed and effortless, but I could tell there was a lot of planning and coordinating behind the scenes. The wedding party wore mismatched gowns and suits, but all within the natural hues of early fall as evident in the images below. As you can see, ceremony florals were not necessary with the beautiful backdrop of mature trees and changing fall foliage.
Following the wedding ceremony, Bramble Bar Co. offered their mobile bar (formerly a horse trailer). Owner, Anna Walker also acted as the day-of coordinator and planner- helping keep the day moving along effortlessly.

We planned to do simple bud vases down the center of the rectangular tables. Sammi provided the vases so the arrangements could be given away to guests at the end of the night. Sammi chose a nice assortment of amber colored vases with alternating glass patterns, which added a little sparkle and a level of sophistication.
I was delighted to see the table settings when I arrived on-site. Sammi had chosen really nice finishes- brass candle holders with taupe tapers, brass flatware, simple ceramic plates (which almost looked handmade), wooden cross-back chairs with cream chair pads and crisp white linens. Having a neutral backdrop for the texturally heavy arrangements was the perfect combination for a very elegant tablescape.
I grow a lot of foliage in my garden every season and by late summer/early fall I have quite the selection to choose from. I grew the Frosted Explosion Grass, Hibiscus 'Mahogany Splendor' and Northern Sea Oats.
The majority of the flowers I was able to source locally via The Maine Flower Collective. I did import some flowers- a few roses and some Chrysanthemums. The local heirloom Mums I'm wild about weren't ready at the time-- in fact, it wasn't until November when they because abundantly available.
