A Fashionable Maine Wedding
David and Michael married at Live Well Farm, surrounded by friends, family and fashion.
David and Michael are both creatives. David has his own fashion design business, David Ferron Studio in Kennett Square, PA and Michael is a culinary creative with a talent for design. Together, David and Michael oversaw the design of their elevated cocktail party themed wedding. David even designed their suits!
David spent summers visiting his family's home on Orr's Island in Harpswell. When David and Michael were considering wedding venues in Maine, they immediately knew Live Well Farm was the place. The farm's setting and established gardens were the perfect backdrop for their "elevated, fashionable coastal garden party" themed wedding with about 70 of their closest friends and family.
During our initial conversation, they talked about the outfits guests would wear: vintage couture gowns, full skirts, rich fabrics and color-- every color of the spectrum, in fact! David planned to make custom suits for himself and Michael as well as dresses for his Mom and his soon to be sister-in-law, Stacy.
David and Michael hired Iris Eats to cater their event and were in the process of making custom hand-made plates for each guest- each stamped on the bottom with a folk gothic emblem they created to symbolize their union. In their spare time, they were collecting kitschy salt and pepper shakers to have on each table.
David and Michael were excited to host a great wedding at Live Well Farm and as they described the day in detail, I felt connected and inspired. This was going to be a truly unique wedding- one to remember.
David and Michael included this note of inspiration on their wedding website to help guests decide what to wear:
“Imagine a blend of beachside elegance and garden party charm. For women, think of flowing cocktail dresses in soft, pastel hues or floral patterns and stripes, paired with elegant sandals or wedges. Lightweight fabrics like chiffon or linen are perfect for a breezy, coastal feel. Vintage-inspired styles in linen and satin are also encouraged, adding a touch of timeless elegance to your ensemble. For men, opt for light-colored suits or dress pants with blazers in shades of navy, brown or light gray, complimented by crisp dress shirts and loafers or dress shoes. Accessories such as hats, delicate jewelry and pocket squares can add a touch of sophistication, tying together the effortless yet polished look. “

David and Michael took the lead with their vision for wedding florals, too. They knew they wanted imperfect arrangements and muted shades of seasonal, wispy wildflowers that looked like they had been cut from a French countryside garden.
David and Michael wanted a few small posies and pocket boutonnieres for themselves, but the florals for the tables were their main focus. They embraced the idea of using seasonally available flowers with subdued colors and lots of texture. September weddings are so great for local flowers. I was thrilled to source almost everything from the Maine Flower Collective and my own garden. I grew purple Basil, Frosted Explosion Grass, Hibiscus 'Mahogany Splendor' and aromatic Mrs. Burns' Lemon Basil (all from seed!) specifically for their wedding.
The centerpieces included local Zinnias, white and pink Cosmos, white and 'Rosanne' brown Lisianthus, lavender Scabiosa, blue Nigella, Sedum and Gomphrena.
David and Michael's reception decor included block printed tablecloths and napkins, linen runners, honey colored rattan chargers, with black plates and lamps. The dark purple Basil and dark Sanguisorba accents were inspired by the black plates to help tie it all together.
